Born in Eketahuna I have lived in urban and rural communities in New Zealand and overseas. My core values are shaped from experiencing a wide range of cultures and places.
My background includes governance, advocacy, policy writing, Principalship, sheep and beef farming. Strategic planning and fiscal discipline are important to me.
I value collaborative partnerships. The Horizons Sustainable Land Use Initiative highlights that working together we get results such as stabilising erodible lands faster. The Manawatu River Leaders forum demonstrates that when members connect and acknowledge challenges, they can co-design a pathway forward to a shared vision.
As past President of Tararua Federated Farmers I have established relationships with local and Government representatives, and I have an extensive knowledge of regional concerns.

I have represented the Tararua District in previous roles. Becoming a Horizons Councillor would be a natural progression in serving the community by overseeing the management of our natural resources and public transport across the region.
I have established valued relationships with community members, staff and councillors. If I am elected, my connections will help the Tararua District maintain a strong profile.
Having historical knowledge is important when setting future direction. Decisions need to be trusted and built on the positive programmes implemented and the errors of the past must not be repeated.
In 2006, the Sustainable Land Use Initiative saw the Government, Horizons and farmers come together to work on stabilising the hillsides and riverbanks. The Manawatū River Leaders Accord and catchment groups are examples of encouraging communities to find local solutions together.
Collaboration and partnership approaches work best without duplication of middle management across organisations. I believe that increasing staff levels in local authorities, and therefore rates, is unsustainable. RMA reform means we’ll be able to make timely changes.
Water allocation within Tararua is a big issue and one that needs priority. Hard decisions need to be based on sound evidence and I’m up for the challenge.
